TASK COFFEE
世田谷区・千歳船橋に誕生した TASK COFFEE の立ち上げに携わった。店主とイメージをすり合わせながら、フォントデザインを店づくりの土台として始めた。フォントは、彼がバリスタとして日々実践する「割り切る」「繰り返す」という姿勢に倣って制作。一文字ずつ細かく作り込むのではなく、ルールを決めてアルファベットを一通り作り、そのルールを少しずつ最適化しながら全体のバランスを整える方法を取った。回り道のように見える工程だが、かえって店主の人柄を映し出す結果になったと思う。完成したフォントは、どこかゲームを思わせるデザインとなり、パッケージのアートワークや「SAVE POINT」という店の指針にもつながっている。

I was involved in launching TASK COFFEE in Chitose-Funabashi, Setagaya. Working closely with the owner, I began by creating a custom font as the foundation of the shop’s identity. The font was inspired by his approach as a barista: “simplify” and “repeat.” Instead of perfecting each letter in detail, I designed the full alphabet by setting clear rules, then gradually refined those rules to balance the whole. This seemingly roundabout process ended up reflecting his personality. The finished typeface carries a playful, game-like feel, linking naturally to the shop’s packaging artwork and its guiding theme, “SAVE POINT.”
